Potential Sets

March 04, 2018

So:

As much as I would like to go in detail about the story of my film, I want to save that content for a whole other post! I have a lot to say, so for now, I'll just reveal that the main setting is (or will be) a coffee shop. I want the atmosphere to be warm and cozy, with a sort of a rustic feel. I found the absolute perfect place to film a couple weeks ago, but after various emails back and forth, the managers of the coffee shop did not agree to let me shoot there. Turns out the coffee shop is part of a production company, and the location doubles as a production studio as well. They offered me the space for $85/hour, but with no props or furniture. On a high school budget, that really isn't possible for me. I've decided I'm going to look for another set this week, but unfortunately options in South Florida are quite limited. Still, I'll continue my hunt!

If I am unable to find another set I really love, I can always film at my local Starbucks.

These are some pictures of BREW Urban Cafe, the set I originally had in mind... This is the exact atmosphere I'm going for, and the space even opens up to railroad tracks that are still in constant use. My goal is to find something similar that won't cost me a fortune!!

Anyway, this week I plan on finding a set in the Ft. Lauderdale/Miami area. It's more difficult to actually get in contact with the person in charge for permission, so I'm hoping that process has a smoother outcome! A lot more to come, so stay tuned.

Projected Schedule

March 04, 2018

Hello!

So I decided to make a schedule for the next couple of weeks to really organize my time with this production. I attached the calendar below, but I'll explain each section a little more in depth.

Each week I'll be researching and posting regardless, but these are just some of the specific big goals I have in mind.

  • March 3-9: Look for set + develop full script and story board. I'm going to make separate posts about both of these topics, but this week I want to fully develop my story and find a solid place to film. Since I'll most likely be filming in a public space, it's important that I get permission in advanced.
  • March 10-16: Cast actors + plan outfits/props + work on website. With all the research from week one I think I'll have a better understanding of what I want the website to look like. I also want to have my actors and all of the mise-en-scene elements of my production laid out.
  • March 17-22: Record voiceover (french) + Prep for filming. As I'll explain further in another post, my film will be in a different language (french), so I must record the narration. I already have someone who said they would help me too :-) I also need to prepare everything for filming the upcoming week.
* March 23-27: I will be out of town and my access to internet will be very limited :( I can't really do much besides blog and research from a foreign country!

  • March 28-April 1: FILMING!! Speaks for itself; I gave myself a decent amount of time just in case anything went wrong and so I could be really meticulous about every shot.
  • April 2-7: Editing + Writing/producing score + re-film if needed. I'm writing my own score for my short with the help of a friend, so as I edit he'll help me produce the music! Also, if there's any mistakes with my shooting, I'll have time to reshoot.
This is just a basic layout that I plan to follow, hopefully everything goes as planned!!

Fresh Start

March 04, 2018

Helloooo readers!

I’m sure there’s only a handful of people reading this consistently, but welcome to my portfolio blog for media studies this year!! Yay!!! I’m so excited to finally start this process as I’ve been looking forward to it all year. I have so many ideas that I’m ready to apply to this final project. Leaving senior year with a bang.

So for my portfolio project, I decided I would do a short film. I think out of all the mediums we’ve delved into within the class, film is definitely the one that has caught my interest the most. I’ve always wanted to create a full length short film, and this project gives me the perfect opportunity.

Last year I did a two minute film-intro as my portfolio project, and although I worked really hard throughout the whole process, I really wish I did a lot of things differently. However, I’ve decided that this year i will adapt a lot of things from my previous production! I’m going to make a whole separate post for my inspiration for this year’s film, but I’m still keeping the same Wes Anderson feel that I had last year! I'm going to explain this more in depth throughout my following posts, but I have my previous portfolio blog linked above to gain more insight!

This is just an introduction to my blog, and I’m so excited to share more details about my upcoming film. Here goes nothing~
